Overview
I led the full redesign and technical rebuild of FOTONNA.org, the website for Friends of Tent of Nations North America. The project modernized the site’s design, clarified the organization’s mission, improved content management, and introduced a streamlined donation system.
The Challenge
The previous site was outdated, difficult to navigate, and built on older WordPress structures. Users struggled to understand FOTONNA’s mission quickly, and the donation flow required too many steps. The nonprofit also needed a more secure, mobile-friendly, and maintainable setup.
What I Did
1. UX & Design Improvements
- Created a clean, modern, mission-aligned visual design
- Simplified the site’s information architecture
- Introduced stronger content hierarchy and improved mobile layouts
- Increased use of photography and storytelling
- Added clearer CTAs, including a persistent “Donate” button
2. Technical Modernization
- Rebuilt the site on a modern WordPress theme
- Reduced plugin dependence and optimized performance
- Improved accessibility (contrast, headings, alt text, keyboard navigation)
- Organized the back end for easier content updates by the FOTONNA team
3. Donation Button & Payment Gateway
- Designed a new donation page with clearer messaging and trust signals
- Added a prominent, persistent Donate button in the header
- Integrated a secure modern Paypal payment gateway allowing donations to be made with or without a Paypal account.
- Built a clean, mobile-first donation flow with fewer steps
